Nellie Gray

Nellie Gray

Gray’s is named after Ellen “Nellie” Gray, the current proprietor’s grandmother. Nellie was born in 1901 near Maghereagh outside Randalstown, was married in 1930, and had her Honeymoon in the East Antrim town of Larne. But it was the causeway coast which became one of the great loves of Nellie’s life, and she returned regularly to Portstewart, Portrush, and Bushmills to enjoy the scenery, the food, and the warmth of local people, in one of the most beautiful coastlines on the island of Ireland. Gray’s is a tribute to Nellie’s abiding love for the Causeway Coast.

John Gray, Nellie’s father circa 1920. John was a guard on the railway line that serviced the Causeway Coast in the first half of the twentieth century.
